Vol. 85 Pt. 2 “Free To Be Me”- Mother

Photo May 19, 3 35 08 AM

The song “Mother” by Pink Floyd is a quiet conversation between a young boy and his Mom.  He feeling fear is full of questions and she offering her loving, guiding reassurance that only Mom can give.

Today I share my rendition of this song, my gift to Mom, honoring those conversations she had with me growing up that are a foundation for the freedom to be me, for a life well lived full of joy, for the music that plays in me because of her and for the love I have for Mom.  Happy Mother’s Day…I Love you Mom!

Thanks for listening!  Happy days…

Mother
Mother, do you think they’ll drop the bomb?
Mother, do you think they’ll like this song?
Mother, do you think they’ll try to break my balls?
Ooooh aah, mother, should I build the wall?

Mother, should I run for president?
Mother, should I trust the government?
Mother, will they put me in the firing line?
Ooooh aah, is it just a waste of time?

Hush now, baby, baby, don’t you cry
Mama’s gonna make all of your nightmares come true
Mama’s gonna put all of her fears into you
Mama’s gonna keep you right here under her wing
She won’t let you fly but she might let you sing
Mama’s gonna keep baby cosy and warm

Ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe
Of course Mama’s gonna help build the wall

Mother, do you think she’s good enough…for me?
Mother, do you think she’s dangerous…to me?
Mother, will she tear your little boy apart?
Oooh Ma, mother, will she break my heart?

Hush now, baby, baby, don’t you cry
Mama’s gonna check out all your girlfriends for you
Mama won’t let anyone dirty get through
Mama’s gonna wait up till you get in
Mama will always find out where you’ve been
Mamma’s gonna keep baby healthy and clean

Ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe
You’ll always be a baby to me

Mother, did it need to be so high?

Vol. 85 “Free To Be Me”- Mom

Photo May 19, 3 35 08 AM

Mom always supported who I wanted to be rather than who she wanted me to be and it was Mom who shared the gift of music.  I remember her buying me one of my first albums “The Wall” by Pink Floyd back in third grade.  In honor of her, as well as all Moms this Mother’s Day, and her 45 years of love and support I have recorded the song “Mother” from “The Wall” that I’ll share with you in a special post this Sunday.  Happy Mother’s Day…I love you Mom.

In the meantime please enjoy meeting my Mom in this week’s message “El Capitan”.

Vol. 76 “Me”- Gram Vitale

2014-02-22 190725  Pic 4 - Copy

I was fortunate enough to have my Gram in my life for 30 years.  What a treat, a joy and a most wonderful influence she was.   Meet Gram in this past installment, Volume 4 Click To Hear “American Ingenuity”

The last five years though were her slipping away…losing the battle to Alzheimers.  It’s 15 years ago this week I said good-bye.  Today I share the song I wrote for Gram “Me” that I penned back in 2003 and just finished recording this version.  I dedicate this song to everyone who has seen the devastation of Alzheimers and to everyone who is dedicated to finding a cure. Thanks for listening!  Happy days…

Me

Gotta face it alone
Can’t find my way home
Left to drift and to roam
It’s just pieces to me

And I can’t pretend to remember
What it is I’m lookin/livin/waitin for
And I can’t seem to find myself
In a song where I know the score
People I have know
And all the places I have been
They’re just a distant memory/melody
What is it that’s happened to me?

What’s waiting & where
No sense left to care
I’m in whose company
What’s happening to me

Through the thick muddied haze
Still a glory of days
To keep dignity
You took good care of me
