Vol. 13 “Discovering Talent”-Larry Wineland

High school french teacher, Director of school plays and musicals, Larry Wineland looked at his students, performers and all those involved in the productions with eyes that grew the person.
Seeing people who could grow to the situation rather than the situation grow to the people allowed his productions and his people to be outstanding.
There are times for natural talent, there are times for raw talent. Mr. Wineland gives the gift of knowing when the latter is called for.

This week meet my first love, Meghan Murphy who lost her life to Breast Cancer in 2010 at the age of 40.

This message is dedicated to every Woman who faces the fear of getting, has fought or is currently fighting and those who have lost the fight to Breast Cancer.  God bless continual progress towards a cure!

While our time was limited by circumstance we took advantage of a moment knowing what the outcome would be at summers end.

No matter understanding the situation will definitely change in the near future, despite knowing the inevitable, often times we need to dive in anyway so as to not miss great gifts.  As short lived as time may be.

Owners of The Uncommon Market in Pittsburgh’s South Hills, I spent 5 years working in their gourmet food market and received gifts of “on the job life training” Janet & Charlie imparted to me during that time.

Through their business, their friendship, their leadership it was at this time I began to learn how to make strangers into friends.

This week meet Cindy Herr-Pino and hear how she made the decision to give the gift of life to her Brother-in-Law Ed who was facing Polycystic Kidney Disease. This is a story of not only Cindy’s giving but of Ed’s receiving.

Cindy also shares her philanthropy Partnerships For Lawrence & The Lawrence Art Center supporting the arts locally in her community. As with all Guest Gift Givers a $50 donation will be made in her name for sharing her story, her time and talents.

The gift every musician gives us, every note they play, fills our hearts, our minds and our souls with emotions, ideas and feelings that cannot be conjured up in any other way than through the gift of music.

Music also gives a gift even greater than the internal connection we feel when we listen.  Music reminds us to seek out those things, in our lives, we do just for the pure joy it brings.

This week I share gift giver Ken Kesey, a gift giver I never met in person.  The gifts we give radiate out and go far beyond the people we give them to.

Ken’s classic book “One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest” and the character of Randle P MacMurphy, an unlikely gift giver, pushes us to push further regardless of what others plans might be.

Also Ken’s life, full of adventure, full of many contributions to popular culture, and his cultural revolution, is an example that pushes us to push beyond others lack of understanding.

This week journey to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to meet my childhood friends: brothers John & Chad, their sister Jen, Butch and Keith.

Friends for nearly 40 years, having grown up since kindergarten in the same neighborhood, this crew of characters share a lifetime of gifts with each other throughout their youth and still today.
